The Netherlands has joined Sweden’s request to bar Russian tourists from the EU. The ”request is justified”, said Minister Bart van den Brink (Migration, CDA).
Swedish Minister Johan Forssell (Migration) wants visa restrictions for Russian citizens. Sweden wants to “put an end to shopping weekends and luxury trips to Europe while Ukrainians are dying on the battlefield. This situation is completely absurd and must stop”, the minister explained to the press in Luxembourg on Thursday.
Van den Brink acknowledges that the EU is sending a “mixed signal” by granting tourist visas to Russia. “It may well be very good for that country’s local and tourism economy, but by doing so, we continue to send the signal to Russia that ‘keep coming’. So the Netherlands has joined the desire to be stricter in this regard”.
