Tikkie sees record King’s Day payments

A record number of Tikkie payments were made on King’s Day, the payment app’s operator, ABN AMRO, reports. A total of 756,316 payments were sent via Tikkie, which is 9 percent higher than on King’s Day a year earlier.

Compared to an average day in 2026, the number of Tikkies on Monday was almost 57 percent higher. At the peak moment, users sent 45 payment requests per second.

Even though the volume rose sharply, the average amount requested was lower than usual. One Tikkie averaged 33.18 euros, roughly 20 euros less than the typical request on a normal day. The payment app notes that a large share of the payments were under 10 euros.

“We see people using Tikkie everywhere. From flea markets to food, drinks, and all the things you experience in groups”, says Moreno Kensmil, Head of Marketing at Tikkie. Most used payment descriptions were ‘King’s Day’, ‘food’, and ‘toilet’, reflecting the festive and informal nature of the day.
