The area from the beach to the central station in Zandvoort has been declared a security risk area as of Thursday at 14.00 hours. The measure is meant to maintain safety and order on the boulevard, the beach, and the terraces of beach pavilions.
The decision follows unrest and nuisance during the Pentecost weekend. Afterwards, the municipality held talks with the owners of nearly thirty beach pavilions. A spokesperson calls it a “strict measure” and says it will be reviewed daily. The evaluation takes place together with the police, the Public Prosecution Service, and the beach concessionaires.
In a security risk area, the police have extra powers. Officers may carry out preventive searches to keep the area safe.
