Two Dutch restaurants received two Michelin stars and seven establishments earned their first star on Monday during an announcement at the MECC Maastricht hospitality trade fair. De Librije in Zwolle remains the only restaurant in the Netherlands to hold three Michelin stars.
De Librije, renowned for its late head chef and co-owner Jonnie Boer, who passed away last year, has held Michelin’s highest distinction since 2004. Head chef Nelson Tanate thanked the restaurant for the continued recognition. Co-owner Thérèse Boer described the past year as a major test for the team, adding that retaining the three-star rating was vital and that the restaurant will keep striving to maintain its standard. She also hoped another Dutch restaurant would join De Librije in receiving three stars next year.
The total number of Michelin-starred restaurants in the Netherlands stands at 119, matching last year’s figure. This total comprises 98 one-star establishments, 20 two-star venues, and one three-star restaurant. The new two-star recipients are Azurite in Delft and SUIS in Schin op Geul. The seven venues gaining their first star are Ambrozijn in Valkenburg, Bij Sidney in Loenen aan de Vecht, De Cuijt in Mierlo, Le Epifaan in Veeningen, Nassau in Groningen, Rozewied in Kortgene, and Wild Atelier in Hoog Soeren.
The ceremony also presented several special awards. Matthijs Vrancken and Nouri Haj Romdhane of restaurant Brut172 in Reijmerstok received the award for best sommeliers. Meanwhile, the new Opening of the Year award went to Luwte in Groningen.
