Cabinet proposes new electric vehicle subsidies and energy relief measures

Share

The government plans to introduce a subsidy to help low- and middle-income earners purchase electric cars, according to reports by RTL Nieuws. To qualify, individuals would need to trade in their current combustion-engine vehicles. The government has proposed allocating 50 million euros to this scheme.

Businesses are also set to receive additional support for green investments, with the tax discount increasing from 40 to 45 per cent.

These measures are part of an energy package the government is due to present on Monday. Because the coalition of D66, VVD and CDA lacks a majority in the House of Representatives, ministers will spend the weekend consulting with opposition parties. Insiders have emphasised that the final figures could still change as a result of these talks.

The government also intends to increase the untaxed mileage allowance and create an emergency fund to help cover energy bills. Sources informed the ANP that the cabinet is likely to spend less than 1 billion euros on the package.
