The Central Judicial Collection Agency (CJIB), which collects fines and handles other legal penalties, has suffered an internal technical error affecting its digital systems. The technical glitch, which began on Friday, temporarily linked traffic violations and criminal cases to the wrong individuals.
According to the CJIB, a small number of people who logged in during this period were able to view data not intended for them. The organisation has submitted a provisional report regarding a data breach to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
The agency also said some letters may have been sent with incorrect information. As a precautionary measure, the digital portal where citizens can check and manage their traffic fines remains closed while technicians work to verify all system data.
The organisation reported that it successfully relinked many cases to the correct individuals on Friday. The digital counter will remain offline until all data is fully verified and secure.
