DE BILT (ANP) – A yellow alert is in effect in North Brabant and Limburg on Saturday evening due to severe thunderstorms, reports the KNMI. Wind gusts and hail may occur, and heavy rainfall is also possible locally.
Wind gusts of up to 60 kilometres per hour are possible during the thunderstorms. Hailstones could be around 1 centimetre in diameter. Locally, 20 to 30 millimetres of rain may fall, according to the weather institute.
The severe thunderstorms are currently over Belgium and will move into Limburg and possibly North Brabant later in the evening. The warning has been in effect since 9:00 PM and is currently expected to last until 3:00 AM Sunday morning.
On Friday, an orange alert was in effect in parts of the Netherlands, also due to thunderstorms. At that time, lightning strikes led to house fires and train and road traffic was disrupted, partly due to fallen trees.
