Demand for cheaper second-hand electric cars is rising

Share

BERLIN (ANP/BLOOMBERG) – Demand for cheaper second-hand electric cars is increasing sharply in Europe. This is the result of the sharp price increases at the pump caused by the war in the Middle East. The number of searches for electric cars under 30,000 euros has risen by 87 percent on Mobile.de since early March. This is the largest German online marketplace for cars.

This represents stronger growth than the 77 percent increase in searches for all electric cars combined, regardless of price. In the United Kingdom, the number of searches for electric cars between five and seven years old tripled in April, according to the British car sales site Auto Trader. This is clearly more than for newer and more expensive models.

More used electric cars are also being sold in the Netherlands, although the numbers are small compared to the total number of used cars sold. Many consumers hesitate to buy a used plug-in car, partly due to concerns about battery life.
