The government will invest 123 million euros to support nature recovery in the Brainport region around Eindhoven, Minister for Agriculture Jaimi van Essen announced during a working visit to Het Groene. With €123 million, the government aims to jump-start nature recovery in the Brainport region. Minister Jaimi van Essen (Agriculture, D66) announced the funding during a working visit to the Green Forest near Liempde, Brabant.

The allocation originates from a €500 million fund earmarked for “priority areas,” according to a spokesman speaking to the ANP. The primary goal is to unblock permit issuance in the Eindhoven area and prevent key economic development projects from stalling due to nitrogen constraints. Specific details on exact expenditure plans remain to be finalized.

“Of course I have a whole package of 20 billion lying around,” Van Essen remarked during the visit, referencing his broader nitrogen policy measures. “But if regions have good plans, then you want to give home as a minister.”

The initiative ties directly into Project Beethoven, a multibillion euro national effort designed to strengthen the business climate for the microchip industry. “However, many of these plans require a nature permit, and that is now stuck,” the Ministry of Agriculture noted, pointing to the high nitrogen burden currently overloading many Brabant nature reserves.
