Heavy rain and thunderstorms moved into the south of the Netherlands on Saturday evening, causing localised disruption. In Nijmegen, the football match between NEC and Telstar was temporarily suspended due to the adverse conditions.
Footage from L1Nieuws showed rainwater flowing down streets in Epen, South Limburg. While the security region reported around 9 p.m. that the fire service had not yet been called out to major incidents, damage was reported elsewhere. In North Limburg, a fallen tree blocked a road, and some areas experienced hail.
In Budel and Weert, firefighters battling a wildfire were forced to withdraw on foot due to the intensity of the storms. Extra fire engines were subsequently deployed to allow extinguishing efforts to continue safely.
The national weather agency, KNMI, had issued a code yellow weather warning for large parts of the country in advance. This warning was lifted for Limburg from 11 p.m. but remains in effect for much of the rest of the country, excluding the three northern provinces. The KNMI expects the intensity of the showers to decrease throughout the night.
