Fixed energy contract rates in the Netherlands are now 13% higher than before the start of the Iran war, according to new figures from the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM). Variable tariffs have not yet risen, but many suppliers traditionally adjust prices on 1 July. Reduced oil and gas flows through the Strait of Hormuz have pushed up wholesale gas prices, while more Dutch households are opting for fixed‑rate contracts.

ABN AMRO has cut its growth outlook for the Dutch do‑it‑yourself sector to 2 percent in 2026, down from 3 percent, as the Iran war, higher inflation, and weaker consumer confidence weigh on home‑improvement spending. ING says the Dutch economy is now less exposed to high energy prices than in 2022. Energy‑intensive industries have shrunk, while sectors like machinery and chip manufacturing have grown, making the overall economy more resilient to a new energy shock.

The Dutch chemical sector is facing growing pressure due to high energy costs and limited government action, according to Rotterdam mayor Carola Schouten. Industry groups warn of declining competitiveness and increasing reliance on cheaper imports from abroad.
