Basic-Fit says hackers have stolen personal data from members in several countries. The company estimates that about 200,000 people in the Netherlands face the impact.
The attackers took membership details, names, home addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, and bank account information. Basic-Fit says it does not store identity documents. It also says the hackers did not obtain any account passwords.
The company says it has notified the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) about the incident. It reported unauthorised access to the system that tracks members’ visits to fitness clubs. The company’s monitoring tools detected the intrusion, and its team stopped the attack within minutes.
External security specialists later found that the hackers had already downloaded a large amount of data. Investigators have not found any signs that the stolen information has appeared online or that anyone has misused it. Basic-Fit says it will continue to monitor the situation closely with external experts.
