Caravans are enjoying a significant resurgence in the Netherlands, according to new sales data from trade associations BOVAG and the Camping and Caravan Industry (KCI). During March and April, registrations for new caravans rose by nearly a fifth compared to the same period last year, with the industry noting a particular surge in popularity among young families.
In total, 2,152 new units were sold over the last two months, marking an 18 per cent increase from March and April 2025. This trend is notable as it contrasts sharply with the rest of Europe, where caravan sales are currently declining in favour of motorhomes.
Marjolijn Wegkamp, chair of BOVAG’s caravan and motorhome division, observed that more young Dutch families are choosing caravans as their preferred way to travel. She noted that parents increasingly view them as the ideal setup for holidaying with children.
KCI chairman Roel Reineman added that since the pandemic, the caravan has firmly returned to the radar of younger generations. He believes the flexibility and convenience offered by modern towing options have helped revitalise the market for young families.
