A large majority of union members among civil servants have approved a new collective labour agreement reached between unions and the cabinet. The deal follows weeks of strikes over a long-standing government wage freeze.
About 80 per cent of union members support the agreement, according to FNV, CNV, AC Rijksvakbonden and CMHF Overheid. This means the agreement is now final.
The agreement, which runs until the end of this year, grants around 160,000 civil servants a 2.7 per cent pay rise in July. Employees will also receive a one-off payment. The payment is higher for those in lower salary scales.
Recent strikes by civil servants had disrupted several services. Slaughterhouses, for example, came to a temporary halt due to a lack of NVWA inspectors. The House of Representatives was also unable to open on a national day of action because of staff shortages.
