DE BILT (ANP) – The heat in the Netherlands is slowly being driven away from the coastal area, the KNMI reported Saturday afternoon. As a result, code orange is no longer in effect in many western provinces, but yellow.
Code yellow applies to Friesland, Flevoland, the Wadden Islands, North Holland, South Holland, and Zeeland. Code orange remains in effect in Utrecht, Drenthe, and Groningen due to the high temperatures. Limburg, North Brabant, Gelderland, and Overijssel remain red. In the southeastern part of the country, it is still very hot and muggy, according to the KNMI.
The weather institute predicts that code red in the four provinces will end around 9:00 PM. However, from about that time onwards, the provinces will turn orange again due to passing heavy thunderstorms. There is a chance of strong wind gusts and hail. This weather alert is expected to end around 1:00 AM on Saturday night/Sunday morning.
In the rest of the country, code yellow applies due to the chance of thunderstorms. For example, around 4:00 PM, there was thunder in the The Hague region and the Hoorn region, among others.
