The FNV (Federatie Nederlandse Vakbeweging) trade union has launched a dedicated hotline for thousands of Schiphol Airport security guards. A new security contract took effect on Monday. This contract shifted workers to different security firms. The union wants to gather feedback and monitor this transition through the new reporting point.
The FNV reports widespread chaos on the work floor. Security guards face severe uncertainty about their futures. Union officials note numerous concerns regarding rosters and increased work pressure. The hotline will help map the exact challenges workers face.
On Monday, long queues formed across multiple departure halls. This happened during the debut of Schiphol’s restructured security setup. The airport reduced its number of security partners from five companies to three. Schiphol holds a financial stake in these new joint ventures.
Severe backlog of worker complaints
The FNV established the digital desk due to a massive influx of grievances. A union representative stated that the volume quickly escalated from dozens of complaints to over a hundred messages. Notifications spiked further after Monday’s shift change.
Schiphol management reacted positively to the FNV initiative. An airport spokesperson confirmed that they are talking with trade unions to address employee feedback. Management believes the desk could serve as a useful tool to identify operational bottlenecks.
