Supermarkets recall pet food due to plastic contamination concerns

Share

Several supermarket chains in the Netherlands and Belgium have recalled pet food after inspectors found blue plastic pieces in the products. Lidl warned on Monday that some of its dog and cat food may contain plastic. Earlier, Albert Heijn and Jumbo also advised customers not to feed a specific type of their private‑label dog food to their pets.

In Belgium, Delhaize issued a similar warning. Its stores also sold pet food in which small plastic fragments may be present. All affected products come from Partner in Pet Food NL. This Dutch branch forms part of a large company that serves four hundred customers in 35 countries.

At Albert Heijn and Jumbo, the warning applies to private‑label dog “stews” with lamb, vegetables, and pasta. These products carry an expiration date of 28‑03‑2028. Lidl sold dog food with the same date under the Orlando brand. The affected cat food is the Coshida Selection “Chunks in jelly, liver with beef” variant. These items have expiration dates of 02‑04‑2028 and 03‑04‑2028.
