The UWV too often makes mistakes when manually assessing whether people are eligible for unemployment benefits. This was reported by Minister Hans Vijlbrief of Social Affairs (D66), based on internal checks carried out by the benefits agency.
The review found errors in 11 per cent of the files that were examined. Mistakes also appeared in around 20 per cent of the audited files related to bankruptcy applications.
According to the minister, these errors can have financial consequences for benefit recipients, both positive and negative. The UWV expects to provide more clarity on the specific effects later this year.
However, Vijlbrief stressed that an error in the so-called MOK check, a peer review process, does not automatically mean that benefits were wrongly granted. In some cases, the issue may involve a UWV staff member not following the handbook correctly.
