The ANWB will deploy extra staff for the rest of the week due to the expected heat. A spokesperson said roadside assistance teams will operate at full capacity until Sunday.
In recent days, the heat has led to about 10 per cent more breakdowns than usual. These include flat batteries, overheated vehicles, and damaged tyres. “It remains to be seen how things will go in the coming days. A public transport strike on Wednesday morning may add to traffic levels. Between 04:00 and 08:00, very few trains, buses, trams, or metros will run. NS said the timetable will resume “gradually” afterwards.
From Wednesday at 12:00 until at least Friday, a code orange warning for extreme heat is in place in the central and southern Netherlands. The KNMI expects maximum temperatures between 33°C and 36°C.
