The ANWB Emergency Centre reported a 15 per cent increase in overseas medical assistance requests during a busy summer season compared to the previous year. Common medical queries involved stomach issues, injuries from accidents, ear infections, and other general infections. Victor Geskes, director of the ANWB Emergency Centre, noted that the rise occurred across almost all popular holiday destinations. While he stated no single cause accounts for the surge, persistent extreme heat across parts of Europe likely played a major role.
Vehicle breakdowns remain steady despite total call growth
In total, the emergency centre received over 900,000 reports from both home and abroad, representing a slight overall increase. Meanwhile, the number of motorists requesting roadside assistance for vehicle breakdowns remained virtually unchanged from the previous year.
Eurocross sees surge in rabies scares and scooter accidents
The Eurocross emergency centre also reported receiving higher numbers of medical assistance requests this summer. Notable triggers for call-outs included natural disasters, scooter accidents, and potential rabies infections. However, gastrointestinal infections accounted for the highest overall volume of assistance requests.
