Despite supporting a motion of no confidence in the cabinet, the BBB remains eager to take part in upcoming budget negotiations. Party leader Henk Vermeer confirmed he will accept Prime Minister Rob Jetten’s forthcoming invitation to talks, a move Jetten openly called “strange” in light of the party’s vote.
Vermeer defended the decision to back the PVV motion, describing it as “a signal” against the cabinet’s refusal to compromise on nitrogen policy. He remains “confident that the cabinet will come around”.
Jetten, speaking after the General Political Debates, noted that the BBB’s voting pattern suggested otherwise, though he plans to seek clarification directly from Vermeer.
Although the BBB’s eleven Senate seats make them key players for any right-leaning majority, Jetten rejected the idea that the budget cannot pass without them, remarking that “various alternatives are available”.
