Avantium has spun off its electrochemical CO₂‑to‑chemicals platform into a new independent company named Carbeau, effective retroactively from 1 April. The platform previously operated under the name Volta Technology.
Carbeau has secured €35.2 million in financing from investors GKT, Invest-NL, Al Baleed Petrochemical, NOM, and Avantium. External investors contributed €23.7 million, while Avantium invested €11.5 million. Avantium now holds a 32.7 percent stake in the new company.
The company uses electrochemistry to convert carbon dioxide into high‑value chemicals, turning CO₂ into a raw material instead of a waste stream. Carbeau will set up its headquarters at Amsterdam Science Park and continue working closely with Avantium. It also plans to build a pilot plant in Delfzijl.
