China rejects Dutch cybersecurity warning

In a statement published by the Chinese Embassy in The Hague, Beijing responded to a cyber advisory issued this week by the Military Intelligence and Security Service (MIVD) and the General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD). The Dutch intelligence agencies warned that Chinese cyber activities targeting the Netherlands are expected to increase in the coming years and urged organisations to strengthen their digital defences.

According to the security services, Chinese hackers are increasingly focusing on so-called edge devices. These devices sit between corporate networks and the internet and can provide access to sensitive systems. China dismissed the warning as “falsehoods” and “baseless accusations”. The embassy argued that China itself is one of the world’s main victims of cyberattacks. China also emphasised that cybersecurity is a global challenge affecting all countries.

The Chinese government also called for greater international cooperation to combat cyber threats. It also emphasised that efforts should be based on mutual respect and collaboration rather than accusations.
