Mirjam Bikker, leader of the Christian Union (CU), said in an interview with the Nederlands Dagblad that her party will not support the cabinet’s Tax Plan unless the cabinet changes it.
According to Bikker, the cabinet is placing too much of the financial burden of its plans on “hard workers and ordinary families”. She argues that the current proposals do not strike a fair balance.
Bikker wants the cabinet to prevent chronically ill people from facing rising healthcare costs. She also wants the government to tax wealth more heavily and reduce taxes on work.
“The choices the cabinet is making now are unbalanced,” she said.
The CU leader also criticised the planned increase in the labour tax credit. In the interview, she said the measure would widen the gap between single-income and dual-income households.
Under the Tax Plan, the cabinet has set aside €1.5 billion to improve the purchasing power of lower and middle-income groups. One measure to achieve this is an increase in the labour tax credit.
