Heijmans, Dura Vermeer, and technical service provider SPIE will start renovating and maintaining the Drecht Tunnel on the A16 between Zwijndrecht and Dordrecht. The project is worth about 233 million euros, and each company will pay one‑third of the cost.
Heijmans said on Monday that the tunnel, which opened in 1977, now needs a major overhaul. Around 155,000 vehicles use the route each day. The companies will replace all technical installations and renew the concrete, asphalt, and ceiling structure.
The consortium plans to refine the implementation plan later this year. Major works will take place in the summers of 2029 and 2030. The project will finish in autumn 2030. After that, the companies will maintain the Drecht Tunnel until 2039.
