The Consumers’ Association is calling on meal delivery platform Thuisbezorgd.nl to end the use of hidden costs. Charges for mandatory “service”, bags, plastic packaging and sauce are not shown early in the ordering process and only appear at the final stage. The organisation also wants Thuisbezorgd to offer some form of compensation and is currently in discussions with the platform.
Researchers monitored prices and the ordering process on Thuisbezorgd in recent months. They found that customers were often confronted with between €2 and €4 in extra costs that were not clearly displayed beforehand. A spokeswoman said this practice has likely been happening for several years. Given the platform’s millions of users, she added that the total amount involved could reach hundreds of millions of euros.
She stressed that the association is not seeking compensation on that scale. “However, we do want compensation that does justice to the situation,” she said.
