Insurance companies are reporting a sharp increase in claims after severe weather swept across the Netherlands last weekend. An orange alert was in place on Saturday evening due to heavy thunderstorms, with large hailstones and strong winds disrupting several regions.
Interpolis and Centraal Beheer have received around 2,600 damage reports. A spokesperson says the rise in claims on Monday is partly due to storm damage often being discovered later.
Most reports involve hail and lightning damage, including broken skylights and damaged cars. Many claims come from the area between Utrecht and Amsterdam.
Nationale‑Nederlanden (NN), which also operates ING Verzekeringen, OHRA, ASN Verzekeringen, and ABN AMRO Verzekeringen, is seeing a similar increase. OHRA, ING Verzekeringen, ASN, and NN have received around 950 reports. ABN AMRO Verzekeringen has received about 400. Most of the damage relates to hail, with many reports from Hilversum and Flevoland.
Centraal Beheer and Interpolis recorded nearly twice as many claims last weekend compared with the previous weekend, when another severe storm hit the country. NN also saw more reports than the week before.
