Heavy fog caused disruption at Schiphol and Eindhoven Airport on Friday. At Schiphol, airlines cancelled dozens of flights from the schedule as a precaution. However, as visibility improved earlier than expected, air traffic was able to return to its normal timetable, according to a spokesperson.
Schiphol was unable to state the exact number of cancelled or delayed flights caused by the poor visibility, noting that decisions to cancel rest with individual airlines.
Eindhoven Airport was also hit by the fog. Omroep Brabant reported that visibility on Friday morning was too poor for aircraft to land, causing a significant delay to the first arrival. Subsequent incoming flights were also held up, creating knock-on delays for departures.
Schiphol confirmed that passengers affected by cancellations have been notified by their airlines and rebooked onto alternative flights where possible.
