It remains unclear who was behind the bomb threats that targeted at least 15 aircraft across Europe on Thursday, Dutch Justice and Security Minister David van Weel said the following day. He noted that tracing the origins of the reports is proving difficult as they were submitted anonymously.
According to the minister, there are currently no indications that a state actor was responsible for the hoaxes, though nothing has been ruled out. Intelligence services recently warned that Russia may escalate its hybrid warfare against Europe.
No explosives were found on any of the aircraft. Among those targeted was a KLM flight en route to Tel Aviv, which subsequently completed its planned stopover in the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
