Dutch drone sector sees steady job growth

Share

Employment in the Dutch drone sector is growing rapidly. According to new research by Rijnland Advies, commissioned by Dutch Drone Delta, the industry now employs over 3,000 people—up from roughly 2,300 in 2023. Researchers project that workforce numbers could exceed 5,100 by 2030 if current growth trends persist.

This figure could rise even higher, as the forecast excludes potential future Defence contracts, as well as staff at organisations that deploy drones, such as the ANWB and Rijkswaterstaat.

While drone operators currently make up the majority of the sector, technological advances are shifting the nature of the work. As automation and artificial intelligence (AI) streamline flight operations, demand is rising rapidly for technicians, software developers, and data analysts.
