Deposit return shelters for walkers on the Four Days Marches route

Share

Walkers taking part in the Nijmegen Four Days Marches can now leave their empty cans and bottles in special deposit shelters along the route. For the first time, organisers are placing these shelters — with compartments that fit bottles and cans — at several locations. Some bus shelters along the route now serve as donation points. Statiegeld Nederland, part of Verpact, launched the initiative to support packaging recycling.

The organisation says the shelters help reduce litter and make it easier for people to hand in empty deposit containers. It is also adding extra drop‑off points in the city centre. “We expect to collect approximately 100,000 empty deposit containers this way,” says director Jeroen Hillen.
