Dutch diesel prices are set to reach a fresh all-time high on Saturday, with average recommended pump prices expected to surpass the previous record set in April. Data gathered by consumer group UnitedConsumers indicates that major oil companies will raise diesel to €2.824 per litre—topping the earlier peak of €2.819. Fuel expert Derk Foolen confirmed that prices are projected to edge up by a further cent, following a half-cent rise on Friday that brought fuel within touching distance of the record.
The sharp surge in forecourt prices reflects months of elevated crude markets driven by the ongoing conflict with Iran. Although oil prices dipped slightly in recent days as fears eased over damage to a Saudi pipeline, market pressure remains intense. Reports from Bloomberg suggest state oil giant Saudi Aramco will curtail several crude shipments to Europe next month, keeping supply tight.
Meanwhile, petrol prices hit a record €2.726 per litre for Euro95 earlier in the week before easing marginally. However, energy analysts warn that further increases are likely. Hans van Cleef of energy consultancy EqoLibrium noted earlier this month that motorway prices could eventually hit the €3.00 milestone. Recommended prices are primarily charged at motorway service stations, whereas off-motorway sites often offer fuel for significantly less.
