Consequently, the government had to find alternative spending cuts across other departments.
System prepares for major 2029 overhaul
The Dutch government still intends to phase out the income-dependent childcare allowance system entirely by 2029. Under the planned reforms, the state will pay childcare providers directly, leaving parents responsible for a fixed co-payment of just four per cent.
