Dutch consortium develops MyCheck digital identity app as European alternative

A consortium of leading Dutch organizations—including ABN AMRO, Achmea, ASN, Deloitte, KPN, and Rabobank—is developing a new digital identification service called MyCheck. Designed as a Dutch alternative to Belgium’s itsme and international tech platforms, the digital identity wallet will launch in the second quarter of 2027.

Smart wallet simplifies digital logins and identity verification

The secure MyCheck app will allow users to log in and conduct digital transactions across platforms without creating multiple accounts:

  • Document signing: Users can complete and digitally sign contracts and legal documents.
  • Identity checks: The app handles website logins, age verification, and personal data sharing (including address details, ID numbers, and date of birth) for driver’s licenses and passports.
  • Data control: Users share personal information only once, enabling faster and safer authentication.

The consortium launched the initiative to meet new European Union regulations, which require all member states to implement digital identity frameworks by the end of 2026.

Project targets European digital independence

MyCheck aims to run entirely on European infrastructure to strengthen national strategic sovereignty. A Rabobank spokesperson noted that while it remains too early to guarantee zero reliance on non-European providers, European independence serves as the project’s founding principle.

The service directly competes with itsme, the Belgian identification app launched in June as the successor to iDIN. While itsme operates across 32 countries with partners like ASR, PostNL, BKR, and PSV, MyCheck positions itself as a fully Dutch-led national alternative.
