VELDHOVEN (ANP) – ASML has invited Elon Musk to an internal event. A spokeswoman for the Veldhoven-based chip machine manufacturer confirmed this following a report by the Eindhovens Dagblad (ED). During the closed technology conference, Musk will “share his vision on AI, robotics, aerospace, and semiconductor production.” His contribution will take place virtually.
According to ED, the invitation is leading to negative reactions on an internal ASML communication channel. Critical employees are reportedly pointing out the tech billionaire’s political views, and a number of ASML employees are said to want to boycott the event. The company is not responding to questions regarding this. “ASML is committed to an inclusive work environment in which everyone feels valued and respected, can contribute fully, and is free to express his or her opinion,” the company stated.
“ASML regularly invites industry technology leaders to share their insights. The invitation to Elon Musk took place within the framework of the Terafab project, which is highly relevant to the semiconductor industry,” the company explained. Musk announced plans in March to manufacture his own chips for AI, robotics, and data centres in space.
“Through Terafab, Musk and his team will become part of our industry’s broader ecosystem, and many companies, including ASML, will collaborate within this initiative. As previously announced, ASML leadership has spoken with Musk about this project and views Terafab as a significant development.”
The conference is exclusively for employees and aims to exchange knowledge and insights regarding new developments and research per ASML. The topics Musk will speak about are, according to the company, “relevant to our employees.”
