Eneco advocates for sufficient market competition in the energy transition

Share

Eneco says the government should leave enough space for companies to play their part in the energy transition. The energy supplier points to the growing role of the state in energy production, including nuclear power and heat networks, which it believes is putting market forces under pressure.

The company argues that the energy market needs a clear balance between government and business. It says the government must set the right frameworks and allow companies enough room to operate. According to Eneco, this approach helps keep prices lower and improves efficiency, service, and innovation. The company adds that market incentives remain essential for an affordable and effective energy system, as well as for the success of the energy transition.

Eneco also notes that the character of the Dutch electricity market is changing. It says the government’s role is shifting, especially as large‑scale Dutch nuclear energy prepares to enter the energy system.
