Explosion destroys rear facade of apartment in Zaandam

An explosion at Hof van Zaenden in Zaandam destroyed the rear facade of an apartment and sparked a fire during the night from Sunday to Monday, according to the Zaanstreek‑Waterland safety region. The blast pushed the entire rear wall outward, sending glass and debris onto Heijermansstraat behind the building. Authorities cordoned off one side of the street.

No one was inside the apartment at the time. Residents in neighbouring homes left their properties as a precaution. Fire crews extinguished the blaze quickly.
