Geldmaat is introducing a pilot that will allow customers to withdraw €100 banknotes from selected ATMs. At present, €50 is the highest denomination available. The new banknotes will be rolled out in 46 Geldmaat locations across major cities and large shopping centres during May and June, the company announced.
The initiative will run for six months. According to Geldmaat, the demand for higher denominations is expected to rise as inflation increases the cost of everyday expenses. The organisation also notes that customers regularly ask whether it is possible to withdraw €100 notes.
The trial aims to determine the extent of demand for the higher denomination and which customer groups are most likely to use it. To avoid accidental withdrawals, the €100 note will only be dispensed after a deliberate and explicit selection by the user.
