Increased wildfire risk across the Netherlands

Share

Warning levels rise

A prolonged dry spell has increased the risk of wildfires across almost the entire Netherlands. At least 20 of the 25 safety regions have now moved to Phase 2. This represents the highest warning level. Fires ignite more easily and spread unpredictably during these dry periods. Consequently, emergency services have increased their patrols in vulnerable areas.

Safety measures for visitors

Authorities advise all visitors to nature reserves to be extremely careful with fire and cigarette butts. Many regions raised their warning levels last week. Zeeland, Limburg, and two regions in South Holland joined them on Tuesday.

Regional differences

Only the northeastern provinces still maintain the lower Phase 1 level. However, the Groningen safety region will also move to Phase 2 on Wednesday at 12:00 PM. Two regions, Amsterdam-Amstelland and Zaanstreek-Waterland, do not use this specific system to track wildfire risks.
