Supermarket chain Jumbo will stop selling La Place products in its stores in the medium term. A spokesperson confirmed the decision following initial reporting by industry publication Distrifood. Jumbo currently stocks several dozen La Place items, including coffee beans, whipped cream, sausage rolls, and premium sandwich toppings such as pastrami and truffle salami.
Huismerk replacement strategy
Jumbo has not disclosed an exact timeline for the removal of the products. A spokesperson stated that the chain will gradually replace La Place items with its own private label products. The company confirmed that customers can continue to purchase La Place items at Jumbo stores for the time being.
The representative declined to provide specific reasons for ending the retail partnership.
Uncertain future for La Place retail range
La Place cannot yet specify how the move affects the future availability of its retail product range. A spokesperson for the restaurant chain noted that La Place views the supermarket range as an important part of its mission to make quality food accessible. The chain is currently exploring future opportunities and potential new distribution partners.
Jumbo acquired La Place in 2016 following the bankruptcy of department store chain V&D. The restaurant chain became an independent entity in 2024. Jumbo currently retains joint ownership of La Place alongside Dutch catering company Vermaat Groep.
