The Netherlands is exploring the delivery of additional cannon ammunition for Ukraine’s F-16 fighter jets, according to the Ministry of Defence. The extra supply will enable the aircraft to shoot down incoming Russian drones and cruise missiles.
F-16s prove effective in air defense but face supply shortages
Defense officials in Kyiv report that the F-16s provided by the Netherlands and other allies are performing highly effectively in air defense roles. However, officials stress that Ukrainian pilots must be able to fight with the aircraft rather than just fly them. Ukraine continues to face persistent shortages of spare parts and ammunition.
Jetten promises ongoing support for maintenance and munitions
Prime Minister Rob Jetten previously assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the Netherlands would support Ukraine with required maintenance, spare parts, and ammunition. While the Netherlands has already supplied a significant amount of F-16 ammunition, the Ministry of Defence confirmed it is currently evaluating additional supplies of 20mm rounds.
