NS has adjusted its train timetable nationwide to help transport passengers during the Zandvoort race weekend. The Dutch Grand Prix takes place from 21 to 23 August. Other major events, including Lowlands in Biddinghuizen, are also scheduled that weekend. In addition, ProRail is carrying out maintenance work on many routes, while some NS employees are on holiday.
The rail operator expects to transport around 50,000 passengers to and from Zandvoort each day during the event.
To manage the extra demand, NS will deploy more than 300 additional staff members per day. Trains travelling towards Amsterdam will be longer, while sprinter services between Amsterdam and Zandvoort will run at maximum length.
These trains will be operated by two drivers and a conductor to help ensure timely departures. NS is also adding extra platforms at Zandvoort station and an additional staircase at Haarlem station. More check-in and check-out terminals will also be installed.
Level crossings between Halfweg and Zandvoort will be closed during the weekend. Road traffic in the area will be diverted.
