Online supermarket Picnic is growing rapidly, but suffers a loss again

Share

Picnic significantly increased its revenue last year, driven by a rise in customer numbers and the expansion of its fleet of electric delivery vehicles. The online supermarket reported the results on Monday in its annual report. Despite the growth, the company again recorded a multi‑million‑euro loss due to ongoing investments.

Annual revenue rose by nearly a quarter to more than €1.9 billion. Most of this revenue came from the Netherlands. Picnic now operates in 690 cities across the Netherlands, Germany, and France. The number of customers increased by 700,000 in 2025, reaching 3.6 million.

The company posted a net loss of more than €272 million, a slight increase compared with 2024. Picnic continues to expand its activities in Germany and France and has invested in automation. The opening of automated distribution centres, such as the one in Oberhausen in Germany, brings high short‑term costs, the company states.
