Rijkswaterstaat heat protocol in effect in Brabant and Limburg

Rijkswaterstaat activated the heat protocol on Monday for Limburg and North Brabant. The measure ensures that stranded motorists move quickly to a safe place with facilities. These include petrol stations and parking areas.

The protocol aims to prevent long waits on hot asphalt. Around 11:30 a.m., road surface temperatures in several locations had already passed 38 degrees, according to rijkswaterstaatstrooit.nl. When outdoor temperatures rise, the road surface can climb above 50 degrees.

Rijkswaterstaat will monitor the weather forecast closely in the coming days. The organisation will decide whether the protocol should apply to more regions. It also urges motorists to prepare well before travelling. “Take extra water with you and an umbrella that you can use as a parasol if your car breaks down,” the spokesperson said.
