September 2026 was 1.8 degrees warmer than normal in De Bilt, according to Weeronline. The average temperature reached 16.8 degrees, compared with the usual 15 degrees. This made it the sixth warmest September since measurements began in 1901. Only 2006, 2023, 1999, 2016 and 1949 were warmer.
Weeronline described the end-of-month warmth as particularly exceptional. The normal temperature for this time of year is 17 degrees, but it climbed to 25.9 degrees on Tuesday. As a result, 29 September became the warmest on record for that date.
Eindhoven also set a new national record, with the temperature reaching 28.6 degrees. September saw far more warm days than usual. In De Bilt, the temperature exceeded 20 degrees on significantly more days than the seasonal average of 13.
September was also slightly drier than normal, although Weeronline said it was not exceptionally dry. An average of 66 millimetres of rain fell during the month, which was 10 millimetres below normal. As a result, existing drought conditions continued.
