Tax returns hit all-time high with nearly 10.7 million filings

Share

Since 1 March, the Tax and Customs Administration has processed nearly 10.7 million tax returns, marking an all-time high for the agency. This surpasses last year’s record of 10.5 million for the same timeframe. Officials have described the filing period as a success, noting that the system ran efficiently throughout.

The tax office has simplified the process by automatically pre-filling more information on the forms. To assist those who struggle with the paperwork, the agency also offers free support; this year, over 53,000 people took advantage of this service, a slight rise from the previous year.

Over 3 million taxpayers have requested an extension to their filing deadline. While most of these requests were made by tax advisers on behalf of businesses, about 10% came from individual filers. The authorities are still determining how many people failed to file or request extra time.

For those who submitted their returns by 1 April, notifications should arrive by 1 July. The first set of assessments was dispatched in late April. Anyone who filed after 1 April can expect a response from the tax office within approximately three months.
