The Netherlands hosts Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on a state visit

At the invitation of the Dutch Prime Minister, Rob Jetten, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay an official visit to the Netherlands from 15 to 17 May 2026. This marks Modi’s second official visit to the country, following his previous trip in 2017.

Meeting the community

On Saturday, the Indian Prime Minister Modi will meet enthusiastic Indian citizens who travel to the Hague to get a glimpse of their premier in the early hours of the day. The Indian community is abuzz with expectations. An Indian resident in Eindhoven shares that their family will hit the road around 5 am to be on time for the event.

The Royal lunch

During the three-day visit, Prime Minister Modi will meet with Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. The Indian Premier is also scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Jetten. The visit takes place early in the new Dutch government’s term, providing a timely opportunity to expand the partnership between the two nations.

Bilateral talks and trade

Discussions will focus on existing high-level cooperation in several key sectors. These include defence, security, and innovation, as well as emerging fields such as green hydrogen and semiconductors. The leaders will also address the ongoing Strategic Partnership on water.

Later that day, in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Jetten, a cooperation agreement will be signed between the two companies. Subsequently, both prime ministers will participate in a roundtable discussion with CEOs of Dutch companies about the economic cooperation between the Netherlands and India. Minister Sjoerdsma gives an opening speech here. Both prime ministers conclude the conversation with brief speeches.

The Netherlands remains one of India’s most significant economic partners in Europe. Bilateral trade reached 27.8 billion USD during the 2024-25 period. Additionally, the Netherlands is India’s fourth-largest investor, with total foreign direct investment (FDI) reaching 55.6 billion USD.
