THE HAGUE (ANP) – The scenario in which Moerdijk remains has come into “more prominent” focus for the cabinet. State Secretary Jo-Annes de Bat (Climate and Green Growth) reports in a letter to Parliament that he is considering the option of “realising a smaller expansion of the Moerdijk port and industrial cluster.” If this option is chosen, the North Brabant village would not have to disappear. Previously, it was thought that the disappearance of this village was inevitable to make way for the expansion of the port and industrial area.
In the coming period, the cabinet will discuss the options with the municipality, the province, and residents. The CDA minister wants to “provide clarity” to residents and entrepreneurs in the region “as soon as possible.”
Last week, the municipality confirmed that the cabinet had put a less drastic scenario on the table. At the time, a warning was also issued against high expectations from the central government. The letter makes it clear that the plan is being seriously considered.
