This spring is one of the top five warmest since records began in 1901, according to the KNMI weather institute. The average temperature was 11 degrees, well above the usual 9.9 degrees. The ultimate heat record of 11.8 degrees was set just two years ago in 2024, after March, April and May all brought warm weather.
It was also a dry and very bright spring. The country saw an average of 105 millimetres of rain, compared to the usual 148 millimetres. The sunny spell brought 730 hours of sunshine nationwide—continuing a trend that has seen spring sunshine shoot up by 29 per cent over the last 30 years.
Beek in Limburg was the wettest and most overcast spot, while Hoorn on the island of Terschelling was the driest. De Kooy enjoyed the most sunshine. The KNMI noted that while sunshine is clearly on the rise, spring rainfall amounts still show no clear pattern.
