The Dutch Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) has returned to the Netherlands after completing its mission in Venezuela. The aircraft carrying the team’s 64 members and eight rescue dogs landed at Eindhoven Air Base at around 1.35pm on Sunday.
Family members and friends gathered at the air base to welcome home their loved ones, who spent the past several days searching for victims of the devastating earthquake in Venezuela.
The team also received an official welcome from Nathalie IJzelslager, Director for Stability and Humanitarian Aid at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Urban Search and Rescue Team travelled to Venezuela last Friday to search for survivors following the earthquake. On Wednesday, the team ended its search operations after rescue efforts entered a new phase and the chances of finding more survivors became very small.
